A Brief Appraisal Of The Clothing Culture
Clothing is one of the oldest culture of man.
The act of making dress to express styles, grand and purpose as a brand is considered to officially started in the 19th century. However, throughout history clothes have served humanity beyond the covering of nakedness.
The history and civilization of the human race remain incomplete without the appraisal of the ever transcending phenomenon called Fashion.
From the biblical Adam and Eve skin clothes to the Egyptian’s Shendyt, the Assyrian’s Shawl and Tunic, the Roman’s Toga, Palla and Stola to the modern British and American styles, something remain unchanged about clothing. Clothes remains a tool for expressions that appeal to the human psychology.
The roles of clothes as a tool of expression is the major driver of it relevance in every civilization and culture, century after century.
Clothe worn by a person express the social status, role and purpose of such person. In the Roman civilization, what physically differentiates the bond and the free, the soldiers from the nobles is in their dressing.
The Yoruba like many African tribes has different clothes for different purposes. Aran is for the affluent, Sanyan are for the wealthy. Agbada is not for the farmland.
"Kijipa l’aso Ole, Ofi l’aso Agba..." Many Yoruba’s proverbs like this tells how apparel determines social class in the old Yoruba and African society. This is not exceptional in the contemporary society as the affluents are known at their appearance. Your wealth can be rated on the basis of your collections of Gucci, Luis Vuitton and the likes.
Clothes also tells about one’s purpose in a society; a member of the force can be known by what he wears, and you can easily suggest who is a nurse or a laboratory practitioner in a hospital at a gaze.
History and culture has shown that clothes are plain slates you can always pen your expressions. The transition of time and season has happened to the clothing culture, humanity has acculturate and absorb styles across oceans. One of the ties that hold us beyond skin colour and religion is fashion.
In the corporate world, the roles of dresses never change. Are you an entrepreneur, a campaigner, whatever, the apparel you wear and that of your associate subtly express your purpose and value louder than you can imagine.
No wonders, brands like coca cola, Pepsi and sport firms invest millions of dollars in apparel production year in, year out. Political organizations and religious are not left out.
Do you have a story to tell about your products and services, commitment and beliefs, philosophy or thoughts? Tell it on apparel, you will see it subtly traveling borders to borders.
Customized Apparel is a major aspect of advertisements every brand must embrace. Your staffs, wards, members/participants, customers and associate should have something wearable to tell the story of your purpose.
